Sheepshead Bay day 2
Brad is getting back today and the clocks change today. That is about all we have planned. I tried to get a video posted online. I don’t know if it worked or not. I’ll try to get the kinks figured out some other time when I actually have internet. But you should be able to get to it using the side links.

Sheepshead Bay day 1
Brad left to head to New Mexico at 6am. The wind is very gusty. I am scared to see what the anemometer reads, better left not knowing. Everything is secure and we have spotted only a few leaks so that’s good. Not much planned for the day, just reading and some photo posting so check out the Scott’s photo link for new photos.

NYC
We picked up my father from a City Island marina at 8:30 so he could join us on our trip through the East river and New York. It was all motoring up hill from there. We needed to get to Sheepshead Bay off Coney Island by 5 but the tide was such that arriving on time meant we had to battle the current all day. Slack tide was at 2 pm in Hell Gate and we arrived at around 12:30 and experienced up to 5 knots against us. This allowed us to take in all the sites Manhattan has to offer at the smoking pace of around 2 knots. The congestion was minimal and we only had to worry about the occasional tug-barge combination. There were more bridges than any of us expected and they always left in awe of their scale. We passed Liberty and Ellis Island around 3:30 and unfortunately by then the sky had clouded over so the pictures aren’t what they could be. I couldn’t help fixating on the harbor defenses of old. Wadsworth Fort at the mouth of NY harbor is a behemoth that makes you shake when you realize that at one point all of those gun ports were full and aiming at the position you now occupy. I had a similar feeling in New
London when looking at the military structures there.
Hal’s comment about the day spent in NYC is “It was awesome!”
We picked up a mooring in Sheepshead Bay at Sheepshead Bay Yacht Club at 4:30 because Saturday and Sunday had 50 knot gusts predicted. A more than scary thought when anchored. We dropped Jack off, double lined the mooring ball and grabbed a bite to eat at a local pizza place. On the way back we stopped off at the Yacht Club bar where the club was hosting a Halloween party. Brad talked for a while with an ex-commodore of the Yacht Club. Everyone was very pleasant even when dressed as a shark fishing boat and shark bait. We returned to the boat around 10 to sleep before brads early morning flight.

Great photos! The envy I am feeling right now and the recollections of life past.

As requested, I'm joining in the conversation. I love the blog; Hal won't be surprised to hear that I read every word and study the photos. Here's a request: how about an entry with dialogue? I'm wondering how much you guys talk, and what you talk about, after all this time together on one boat. (Dan is adding some fresh subject matter, I'm sure.) And do you get irritated with each other? How did you punish Hal for stinking up the boat? At any rate, keep up the good work. The blog is a blast. Ann
